The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art was founded in 1842 by Daniel Wadsworth and is the oldest continuous operating public art museum in the United States. Join Wadsworth Docents Beth Malley and Christi Moraga as they take us on a highlights of the museum collection, join us to see some of our most captivating … these include works by European artists and American artists, landscapes and sculptures! History has a way of changing what artists chose as subject matter and the tools they used to achieve their art. Both are important and we will see these and discuss them together. Hopefully seeing this presentation will entice you to visit the museum where many of the works are there for you to see! After the Highlights tour, Beth and Christi will take us on an "Art and Food" adventure! We'll explore beautiful paintings in the Wadsworth Collection that showcase food, from still lifes to grand feasts, and take a closer look at stunning arts objects that were both functional and purely decorative. We'll see how different styles and trends in history influenced the appearance of these objects and the materials used. This delightful art journey will surely get us excited for the upcoming Thanksgiving and holiday season!
This program is part of the Art Talks series presented by Glastonbury Arts. The presentations provide a window-in to the creative experience for original art and handmade craft. Popular to artists, students, and art appreciators alike.
